Water World – Fun For Families and Thrill Seekers

A favorite destination for families and thrill-seekers alike, Water World in Federal Heights CO is one of America’s biggest water parks. It features a variety of water slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers.

You can save money on admission by purchasing tickets ahead of time online or at King Soopers (bring an empty Diet Pepsi can for $6 off). Food and factory-sealed, non-alcoholic drinks are allowed in coolers. Read on to know more.

Thrill Rides

Described as America’s biggest and best water park by Travel Channel, this massive attraction north of Denver is a summer hot spot. It offers something for everyone with a large selection of thrill rides, wave pools, and family attractions.

The Mile High Flier is the park’s first hydro-magnetic water coaster and a huge draw for thrill seekers. Its five hills take riders up to 45 seconds.

There are two wave pools at the park, both of which have a different setup than traditional water parks. The smaller one, Captain Jacks, has a repeating engine to create multiple waves over 10-minute cycles, while the larger Thunder Bay uses a single engine and offers only a few wave types.

Bungalows are available for rent near the entrance to the water park for $49 a day, and cabanas can be booked ahead of time for $199. You can bring food and drinks into the park, but coolers are limited to 30 quarts.

Family Attractions

There are plenty of attractions suitable for families at Water World. One of the more unique is Voyage to the Center of the Earth, a raft water slide ride that takes place entirely inside an artificial cave. This ride features steep downward spirals, sudden drops, and various dinosaurs (including an animatronic T. rex) and can take over 5 minutes to complete, making it one of the longest rides at any water park.

Other family-friendly rides include the Zoomerang, which uses four-person inflatable rafts to send riders down a fast and furious racetrack. Another family favorite is the pitch-black Swim Ring slide, a water attraction that sends guests down an enclosed body slide in total darkness and is synced to music playing throughout the park.

For those who prefer to relax, there’s the Lazy River. This winding attraction is surrounded by seats and benches and provides the perfect opportunity to kick back and relax for the duration of your visit. The park also offers free patches of grass where you can unfurl a towel or rent two-person bungalows or cabanas starting at $199 per day. Check it out here.

Water Slides

The park features a mix of water slides that cater to families, thrill seekers, and everyone in between. There are also wave pools, lazy rivers, and other attractions to enjoy.

The most famous ride is the raft water slide called Voyage to the Center of the Earth, themed to a fictional cave that supposedly contains prehistoric creatures. It features steep downward spirals, sudden drop-offs, and animatronic dinosaur encounters.

In addition to the dozens of rides, Water World has two wave pools. The smaller pool, Captain Jacks, holds 500,000 gallons and uses a repeating engine to generate multiple waves on 10-minute cycles. The bigger pool, Thunder Bay, is a 1.1 million-gallon pool with a new engine that produces various wave types.

Food options at the park include standard theme-park fare like pizza, chicken strips, burgers, and hot dogs. You can also find sweet treats like funnel cakes, Dole Whip and Dippin’ Dots. If you need to refuel, there’s also a Taqueria El Tucan across the street that serves pupusas, tortas, and tacos.

Food

A day at Water World works up an appetite, and there are a variety of food options throughout the park. You can find standard amusement park fare like pizza, burgers, and chicken tenders, as well as more exotic items such as tacos and pupusas. For those who have a sweet tooth, there are plenty of dessert stands featuring funnel cakes, soft serve, and Dole Whip. If you want to sit back and relax, there are also a number of pavilions set up for enjoying a picnic.

Water World’s newest restaurant, Bayside Barbeque offers a wide selection of tasty smoked meats including sliced brisket, baby back ribs, and pulled pork along with delicious sides such as red-skinned potato salad, white mac & cheese, vegetable slaw, and ranch beans. They also offer the Water World Meal Plan and convenient mobile ordering! Located next to the Thunder Bay wave pool. Click here for more interesting articles.
