Fishing
Bring the kids and teach them how to fish, or simply enjoy fishing for rainbow trout at Waneka Lake. While this small lake prohibits swimming and private boats, you can rent paddle boats or test your balance on a stand-up paddleboard in the summer, while fishing is permitted all year round.
The 147-acre park includes a 1.2-mile fitness trail, restrooms, drinking fountains, and two park shelters. Visitors can also enjoy the playground and picnic areas.
Paddle Boating
Whether you’re looking to test your balance on a stand-up paddleboard or cruise the lake in a dragon, pirate ship, pelican, pink flamingo, or swan-shaped paddle boat, Waneka Lake Park is full of opportunities for family fun year-round. Visitors can rent paddle boats and canoes from the boathouse, or bring their own personal vessels.
The 147-acre tree-dotted Park is also home to fishing, jogging trails, and bird-watching, which focuses on local raptor species. Those who enjoy kayaking can take advantage of a 1.2-mile fitness trail, which completely encircles the small lake. More about Federal Heights here.

There is even a playground to entertain the kids on those hot Colorado summer days. Shade is provided by large trees and the playground features include a lake cabin-themed play structure, curved climbing structures, a triple wavy slide, and a standing seesaw.
